The Department and the Aging Network regularly honor individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to their communities.
Annual award programs include…
Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame
Perhaps the most prestigious of these programs, the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame was initiated by the General Assembly in 1994 to commemorate the achievements and contributions of citizens age 65 or older. Inductees are selected through a statewide nomination and judging process, which concludes before the end of the current fiscal year. The program targets candidates in the areas of community service, education, the work force and graphic/performance arts. The event receives corporate sponsorship from Walgreen's.
Governor’s Awards for Unique Achievement
The Governor’s Award for Unique Achievement recognizes groups, individuals and programs that make a positive impact on the lives of seniors in the state. See the October 9, 2009, press release for information on the 2009 winners.
Governor’s Awards for Excellence
Given during the Governor's Conference on Aging, this award recognizes individuals and groups who have worked hard to improve the quality of life for older adults and their caregivers in our state. See the December 23, 2008, press release for information on the 2008 winners.
National Employ the Older Worker Week Awards
The Department holds an annual awards luncheon, in conjunction with National Employ the Older Worker Week, to honor Illinois' outstanding older workers and their employers. For more information or to nominate someone, visit the NEOWW Awards page.
