August 9, 2001 Ms. Illinois American Classic Woman Pageant Winner Contestants to be at State Fair SPRINGFIELD, IL Sandra Sue Gehrs of O’Fallon, this year’s winner of the Ms. Illinois American Classic Woman Pageant, will appear along with past pageant winners and contestants at noon, Saturday, August 11, at the Illinois State Fair. The women will perform individual talent acts in the auditorium of the Illinois building. "I encourage people of all ages to come out to see these dynamic and talented women," said Margo E. Schreiber, Director of the Illinois Department on Aging, which is a sponsor of the senior pageant and also arranges daily entertainment in the Senior Building during the Fair. Those performing will be: Ellen Dick-Frerrao of Oak Park (piano); Martha Smith of Danville (Master of Ceremonies); Sandra Sue Gehrs of O’Fallon (dancing); Mabel Grogan of Belleville (dancing); Marilyn Brendel of Villa Park (singing); Gerri Manning of Chicago (singing); Jean Nielo of Wheaton (singing); Angela Lauderback of Arlington Heights (singing); Jan Prichard of Quincy (reading); Eileen Cunningham of Carrollton (singing and reading); and Adrienne Woodside of Chicago (singing). All have competed in the Ms. Illinois American Classic Woman Pageant, which is designed to showcase the health and vitality of women age 60 and older. The next pageant will be held March 14-17, 2002 in Oakbrook Terrace. Judges consider interview, stage presence, talent, and life philosophies. The winner travels the state promoting wellness and fitness, and encouraging other adults to become involved in worthwhile activities, and represents Illinois in the National American Classic Woman Pageant held in the fall in Wilmington, DE. ###
